Experiencia teatral Schouwburg Amphion es un teatro popular en el centro de la ciudad de Doetinchem en los Países Bajos. Debido a que el edificio actual no puede mantenerse al día con las exigencias de hoy, el municipio junto con la apasionado director de Amphion, Hank Raben, decidió construir un nuevo teatro.
El nuevo Schouwburg Amphion estará ubicado en Lookwartier, un nuevo barrio al noreste del centro de la ciudad y cerca de las tiendas, cafés y restaurantes. Mecanoo diseñó el nuevo Amphion para ser no sólo un edificio, sino también una experiencia teatral especial para las personas que visiten el edificio.
El resultado es notable, todas las caras del edificio fluyen de adentro a afuera, mientras que el interior alberga las tecnologías de teatro de forma organizada y eficiente. El Vestíbulo El concepto es simple: una sólida construcción de piedra natural exponiendo fajas cortes horizontales de vidrio que lo atraviesan, ofreciendo vistas del colorido interior invitando entrar al foyer del teatro.
La fachada se inclina ligeramente hacia atrás, anclando firmemente la construcción en la tierra arenosa de Doetinchem.
La fachada de vidrio en esquina se fusiona dentro y fuera creando una invitación a entrar al Schouwburg, acentuado con una rampa al estilo de una alfombra roja.
A través del vestíbulo y por la gran escalera, los visitantes llegan al hall de entrada de las dos salas de teatro.
Aquí también se encuentran el café y restaurante. En el primer piso se encuentran las entradas a la gran sala de teatro con una capacidad para alrededor de 870 personas y el pequeña sala multi-funcional con 300 asientos. Las grandes aberturas de vidrio en la fachada ofrecen una visión de la vida de la ciudad fuera del edificio. El foyer de artistas y los espacios técnicos se encuentran bajo el vestíbulo principal, donde también se localizan las tarimas y equipamiento para la construcción de escenarios.
Ambos escenario tienen fácil acceso de ambos lados y el aislamiento de los muros que lo rodean asegura que no haya contaminación acústica desde el exterior.
El vestíbulo de artistas y los espacios de oficinas están ubicados en la planta baja, frente a las nuevas residencias de la Lookwartier.
De esta manera los peatones pueden ver las actividades diarias del teatro. Ambiente íntimo.
El vidrio de las fachadas y el interior caliente de color rojo dan al Amphion una animada y festiva apariencia de noche y también durante el día.
Cada sala tiene su propio atmósfera interior, que difiere de los vestíbulos. La gran sala en forma de herradura tiene dos balcones y cabinas de asientos en la planta baja, simulando los tradicionales teatros de los siglos 18 y 19.
Debido a la forma de la sala de teatro, el público se sienta cerca del escenario.
La elegante decoración de la sala con la sucesión de materiales duros y blandos, de colores cálidos y la variación en la iluminación hacen hincapié en una atmósfera íntima.
La nueva pequeña sala tiene la apariencia de un taller o un lugar de trabajo y hace referencia a la pequeña sala del antiguo Amphion. La tecnología es evidente y el público se sienta casi en el escenario. El número de asientos para la audiencia es variable, lo que permite diferentes usos.

Theatrical experience
Schouwburg Amphion is a popular theatre in the city centre of Doetinchem in the Netherlands. Because the current building could not keep up with the demands today, the municipality together with Amphion’s passionate director, Hank Raben, decided to build a new theatre.
Through the entrance hall and via the grand staircase, visitors are led to the foyer around the two theatre halls. The theatre café and restaurant are also located here.
The artist foyer and technical spaces lay under the foyer where the built-in loading docks are also located. 
The artist foyer and office spaces are located on the ground floor opposite new residences of the Lookwartier. In this way pedestrians can see into the theatre’s daily activities.
The chic décor of the hall with the alternation of hard and soft materials, warm colours and variation in lighting emphasizes the intimate atmosphere.

The new Schouwburg Amphion will be located in Lookwartier, a new neighborhood north east of the city center and close to shops, cafes and restaurants. Mecanoo designed the new Amphion to not just be a building but also as a special theatrical experience for people visiting the building’s interior and also exterior. The result is a remarkable, all-sided building that fluently transitions from outdoors to indoors while housing organized and efficient theatre technologies.

The concept is simple: a robust building of natural stone exposing horizontal glazed cut-throughs that offer views into the colourful and inviting theatre foyer.

The facade leans backward slightly, strongly anchoring the building in Doetinchem’s sandy soil. The glass corner facade merges inside and outside creating an inviting entrance. Like a red carpet, the entry ramp invites visitors to enter the Schouwburg.

Large glass openings in the facade offer a view of city life outside of the building.
The artist foyer and technical spaces lay under the foyer where the built-in loading docks are also located. Both stage floors are easily accessed on both sides and the insulation of the surrounding walls ensures that there is no neighbourhood noise pollution.

Intimate atmosphere
The glass facades and the warm red interior give the Amphion a lively and festive appearance at night and also during the day.

The two halls each have their own interior and atmosphere that differs from the foyers.
The large horseshoe shaped hall has two balconies and box seats on the ground floor, harkening to the traditional theatres from the 18th and 19th centuries. Because of the shape of the theatre hall, the public sits close to the stage.
The new small hall has the appearance of an atelier or a workplace and refers to the small hall of the former Amphion.
The technology is evident and the public sits almost on the stage. The audience seating is multifunctional and allows for different uses.
